Konitsa, Epirus, Greece, July 15, 2022
A crowd of Orthodox faithful gathered on Monday evening in rural Konitsa, the town where St. Paisios the Athonite spent his youth.
The celebration began with Vespers for the feast of St. Paisios, one of the most beloved saints in the Orthodox world today, in the Church of St. Kosmas of Aitolos, followed by a procession led by Metropolitans Athanasios of Siatista and Kallinikos of Kastoria, reports Orthodoxia.info.
Local authorities also participated in the festivities.
The faithful walked through the streets of Konitsa until they reached the saint’s childhood home, where a prayer service was held. Afterwards, the two hierarchs went into the house for a while.
St. Paisios was born on July 25, 1924, in Pharasa, Cappadocia, but after the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, his family settled in Konitsa.
