His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine celebrated the 8th anniversary of his enthronement as Ukrainian primate with a Divine Liturgy at the Kiev Caves Lavra yesterday.
In addition to the congratulations coming from his fellow Ukrainian hierarchs, Met. Onuphry also received messages from the primates of other Local Churches.
In his message, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia calls upon the Ukrainian primate to preserve canonical unity and purity in Church life:
Accept my congratulations on the eighth anniversary of your enthronement to the See of the Metropolitans of Kiev.
By the inscrutable providence of the Almighty, you stand at the helm of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in a difficult period of its historical existence. May the loving Savior, through the prayers of His Most Pure Mother, strengthen you on the path of preserving the unity and purity of the canonical structure of Church life.
I prayerfully wish you good health and patience. May the magnanimous God enlighten you to be able to carry out the high service entrusted to you in difficult circumstances.
Recall that after the Council of the UOC held in Kiev in May, Met. Onuphry stopped commemorating Pat. Kirill as his primate, but rather as one of many primates he’s in communion with.
Met. Onuphry also received congratulations from His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church and His Beatitude Metropolitan Rastislav of Prešov and the Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, praising him as a loving and sacrificial leader of the Ukrainian Church in such difficult times.
