Wonderworking icon and relics of St. John of San Francisco to visit Kiev

Photo: desyatynniy.com Photo: desyatynniy.com The Orthodox faithful of Kiev will be blessed with a visit from St. John (Maximovitch) of Shanhai and San Francisco next week.

With the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine and the assistance of His Grace Bishop Gideon, abbot of the Tithes Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, a miraculous icon with various relics of St. John will arrive at the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday evening, the Tithes Monastery reports.

The icon is adorned with a particle of the relics of St. John, as well as his belt, the cross from his klobuk, and a piece of his coffin. The sacred treasures will be at the church for the feast of the uncovering of St. John’s relics.

The icon will arrive Tuesday evening at 5:00 PM for the All-Night Vigil with the an akathist. The next morning, His Eminence Archbishop Sylvester of Belogorod, rector of the Kiev Theological Schools, will celebrate the Divine Liturgy for the feast St. John’s relics.

After the feast, the icon will remain in the church through next Sunday.
