Svyatogorsk and Zaporozhye, Ukraine, October 26, 2022
Over the summer, when volunteers couldn’t reach the Holy Dormition-Svyatogorsk Lavra due to the ongoing hostilities, the locals shared what little they had with the monks and the refugees taking shelter there. And in recent weeks, the monastery has received humanitarian aid from dioceses throughout Ukraine.
Now, the monastery is pleased to give back to the locals who helped them make it through the fighting.
On Friday, October 21, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Arseny of Svyatogorsk, the abbot of the monastery, food packages were distributed to the locals, the monastery reports.
Each set includes potatoes, grains, sugar, canned soup, canned fish, and sunflower oil. Yesterday, the brethren also distributed bread to the locals. The locals tearfully thanked the monastery for their love and help.
Also on October 21, humanitarian aid was distributed to large families, disabled people, internally displaced persons, and other needy people on the square in front of the Holy Protection Cathedral in Zaporozhye.
Altogether, 300 families from the city of Zaporozhye received assistance, which was provided by the Vadim Novinsky Foundation, reports the Diocese of Zaporozhye.
“The merciful Lord never leaves His children, but in a difficult hour brings them to a place where everyone will surely find shelter and help-to the church of God. Here is the focus of mercy, love and compassion,” His Eminence Metropolitan Luke of Zaporozhye reflected.
