The 60-foot cross is the latest feature of St. George the Victorious Park overlooking the village of Tsrancha, Smolyan Province, in southwestern Bulgaria. The blessing service was celebrated yesterday by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Plovdiv, His Grace Bishop Arseny of Znepol, and local clergy, reports the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The blessing service was also attended by the mayors of several local towns and villages and other public officials, and “hundreds of God-loving Christians from the area.”

After the blessing, Met. Nicholas offered an inspired homily on the importance of the cross in our lives and the feast of the Archangels.
