Hierarchs, clergy, and faithful of several Orthodox jurisdictions came together to celebrate the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle on Wednesday, November 30, at Brazil’s world-famous Christ the Redeemer statue, reports the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires and South America of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the foot of the 120-ft. high statue in Rio de Janeiro by the local hierarch Archbishop Joseph of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Bishop Theodore of Apamea, Auxiliary of the Diocese of Rio de Janeiro of the Patriarchate of Antioch, and priests of both Patriarchates and of the Polish Orthodox Church’s Diocese of Brazil.
Earlier, in March 2021, Bp. Theodore blessed the 7-acre plot of land in Itaipava where an Antiochian monastery is being built.
At the beginning of this year, the Serbian Orthodox Holy Trinity Monastery in Pernambuco launched the first Portuguese-language Orthodox publishing house in Brazil.
