Condition of attacked Ukrainian priest has stabilized

The condition of Archpriest Anthony Kovtoniuk has improved, after he was brutally attacked and slashed in the throat with a knife on Monday.

Fr. Anthony underwent surgery and is now recovering in the hospital. He was able to speak with relative and the police, reports the Vinnitsa Diocese.

The diocese also expressed its gratitude to the police and doctors for their timely assistance.

Police quickly arrived on the scene when Fr. Anthony was attacked and were able to detain the assailant after shooting him in the leg with a service weapon. The man is a 47-year-old resident of Vinnitsa who is known to have psychological problems, though no criminal history, according to the Vinnitsa Province police.
