Antiochian Synod to elect North American Metropolitan next month

The Holy Synod of the Antiochian Orthodox Church will convene late next month to elect a new Metropolitan for the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, the Archdiocese reports.

Under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East, the Synod will consider on February 22 the three nominees sent by His Eminence Metropolitan Antonios of Zahle following the recent Archdiocesan convention in Dallas: His Grace Bishop John Abdalah, His Grace Bishop Nicholas Ozone, and His Eminence Metropolitan Saba Isper.

The Archdiocese asks: “Please pray that the Holy Spirit will bless the Holy Synod’s deliberations and grace the next Metropolitan to lead the Archdiocese in wisdom and holiness.”

The next Metropolitan will replace Metropolitan Joseph, who resigned in September after serious moral claims against him came to light.
