The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Antioch will convene tomorrow to elect a new Metropolitan for the Archdiocese of North America.

Just days before the election, a delegation from the North American Archdiocese arrived in Lebanon, including the two hierarchs from America who were nominated as potential Metropolitans at the Archdiocesan convention last month.

The Patriarchate reports:

His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, received a delegation from the Archdiocese of New York and All North America. The delegation included Their Eminences Bishops John (Abdullah) and Nicholas (Ozone), and members of the Archdiocesan Board of Trustees.

His Beatitude welcomed the delegation that participated in the Divine Liturgy in the morning at the Patriarchal Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand. A special meeting was convened with His Beatitude, as they discussed matters related to our Antiochian Archdiocese in America and the latest developments about our parishes affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey.

The visit coincides with the convening of an extraordinary session of the Antiochian Holy Synod to elect a Metropolitan over the Archdiocese of New York and All North America.

Besides His Grace Bishop John Abdalah and His Grace Bishop Nicholas Ozone, the Archdiocesan convention also nominated His Eminence Metropolitan Saba Isper.
