We all can make an extra little sacrifice during the coming Lenten season to make a spiritual and financial offering to the pro-life cause, says His Eminence Archbishop Michael of New York and New Jersey.
The hierarch of the Orthodox Church in America led yet another moleben for an end to abortion outside a New York aborturary together with the St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Pro-Life Society on Saturday.
In his homily at the end of the moleben, he urged all the faithful to make time to pray for the pro-life cause, and to sacrifice a little food every week and offer the money saved to the support of expectant mothers.
As we are about to begin the Lenten season, I urge all of us, as we pray and fast, as is the custom of our Church, that we take time to pray for the pro-life cause, that we pray for those innocent children in the womb, that they will be safe; that we will touch the hearts and minds of those who are faced with the challenge of making a choice, that they make one for life and not one for death; that the Lord gives strength and assistance, help and His love to all those women who struggle in this choice; that God may give them forgiveness and healing no matter what their choice is.
And as we fast, we take one meal each week and make that fast for life in the womb. You can do more if you want, but at least one. Whatever you save, put that money aside and make a contribution… Go out of your way to make that gift in honor of the Savior Who gave His life to save us all.
For example, an offering could be made to cover diapers, His Eminence said. He continued:
Prayer is the greatest power there is, except for love. We know that love is stronger than death. We know that our Lord proved that when He went to the Cross and overcame death, went into the tomb and overcame burial…
So this Lent, make some time to pray and fast for pro-life. You’ll find John the Baptist, and all the saints, especially the Mother of God, praying with you, adding their voices to your voice, adding their prayers to your prayers, adding their love to your love.
