The Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest of the Orthodox Church in America announced the establishment of the Dakotas Mission District yesterday.

The new district, overseen by His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of Chicago, was founded “for the purpose of focusing energies and coordinating resources among new and established parishes, missions and chapels of all Orthodox jurisdictions within the Missions District wishing to work together in a common effort to evangelize the Dakotas.”

A strategic vision for evangelizing the Dakotas was crafted at a conference held in Fargo, North Dakota, last month, the centerpiece of which is “bringing the clergy and faithful within the Missions District together face to face regularly in different venues … to overcome what has heretofore been a relatively isolated existence.”

Coordination of activities is being spearheaded by the OCA parishes in Minot and Fargo and the new Antiochian mission in Bismarck. Parishes of all jurisdictions throughout Minnesota are also welcome to join forces.
