One member of the brotherhood of the Kiev Caves Lavra has decided to leave the Church and join the schismatics, after which he was appointed abbot of the schismatics own “Kiev Caves Lavra.”

According to a report from the OCU yesterday, Archimandrite Avraamy (Latish), who was a member of the Lavra’s spiritual council under the canonical Church, appealed to “Metropolitan” Epiphany Dumenko for reception into the OCU as a member of their “Lavra.”

In turn, Epiphany blessed Fr. Avraamy to act as abbot. The OCU head also appealed to the government again to provide them with premises on the territory of the Lavra.

Recall that the OCU created its “Kiev Caves Lavra” on paper in May, and had it registered across the street from the actual Lavra in December. The schismatics first served in the Lavra in January.

Fr. Avraamy also appealed to the monks of the Lavra who remain faithful to the Church, blaming the present situation on the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which he argues is “inciting hostility and confrontation.”

He calls on the brethren to recognize the tomos of autocephaly given to the OCU by Patriarch Bartholomew.

By decision of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine, Fr. Avraamy was suspended from serving yesterday for violating his priestly oath and a number of Church canons.
