His Eminence Saba, the newly elected Metropolitan of the North American Archdiocese of the Antiochian Patriarchate, arrived in America in last week, eager to celebrate Holy Week and Pascha with his new flock.
The Antiochian Holy Synod elected Met. Saba, previously the Archbishop of Bosra Hauran and Jabal al-Arab, on February 23. His predecessor Metropolitan Joseph resigned in September after serious moral claims against him came to light.
The new Metropolitan landed at JFK in New York on Friday, April 7, where he was greeted by dozens of clergy and laity, including His Grace Bishop John of Worcester and New England, the Archdiocese reports.
He then arrived at the Archdiocesan headquarters in Englewood, New Jersey, where he celebrated a service of thanksgiving.
Met. Saba began his pastoral visits on the feast of Palm Sunday, celebrating the Divine Liturgy at St. George Church in Little Falls, New Jersey:
Throughout Holy Week, he will visit churches in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New York.
He will celebrate Holy Pascha at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Brooklyn.
