Abbot Peter (left), Elder Zacharias (center), Abbot Sergius (right). Photo: Facebook St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Theological Seminary in Waymart, Pennsylvania, are in the midst of their 119th annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage.
In addition to the daily cycle of services, the pilgrimage also features the seminary graduation ceremony every year and many other blessings for the thousands of Orthodox faithful who attend.
This year, the pilgrimage is blessed both with the presence of the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon and of Abbot Peter and Elder Zacharias from the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex, England.
St. Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary enjoy a long-standing relationship with St. John the Baptist Monastery, which was founded by St. Sophrony (Sakharov), and Elder Zacharias, a spiritual child of St. Sophrony, has visited several times in the past.
On this visit, Abbot Peter offered the commencement address, and both he and Elder Zacharias offered a public talk in the trapeza following the Sunday Liturgy:
