Photo: St. Tikhon’s Monastery Facebook One of the main events at St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery in northeastern Pennsylvania is the annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage.

St. Tikhon’s is the oldest Orthodox monastery in America, founded in 1905 by the future Patriarch St. Tikhon. The pilgrimage offers the faithful to chance to worship at the monastery, venerate the holy relics and wonderworking icons housed there, and walk where many saints have walked.

The graduation ceremony for St. Tikhon’s Seminary is also held during the pilgrimage every year.

And this year, the monastery and seminary will welcome Elder Zacharias (Zacharou) and Abbot Peter of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex, England, for the pilgrimage, the monastery announced yesterday.

Elder Zacharias is a spiritual child of the recently canonized St. Sophrony (Sakharov) of Essex, and Abbot Peter is a spiritual child of Elder Zacharias.

Abbot Peter will offer the seminary commencement address on Friday, May 26 at 7PM, and Elder Zacharias will offer a public talk with a book release and singing on Sunday, May 28, at 12 PM.
