ROCOR, OCA, Serbian, Romanian hierarchs celebrate anniversary of Abp. Peter (ROCOR Midwest) (+VIDEO)

Hierarchs from four different jurisdictions came together on July 12, the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Eminence Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the diocesan Cathedral of the Protection of the Mother of God in Des Plaines (Chicago), Illinois, in the same church where he was consecrated 20 years ago, the diocese reports.

The feast was presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, the First Hierarch of ROCOR, who was concelebrated by Abp. Peter, Abp. Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, and Bishop John of Caracas and South America of ROCOR, Metropolitan Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolia of the Americas, Archbishop Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest of the Orthodox Church in America, and Bishop Longin of New Gračanica and Midwestern America of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The hierarchs were also joined by a host of priests and deacons.

At the small entrance, Abp. Peter elevated Deacon Alexander Petrovsky to the rank of protodeacon.

Following the Liturgy, greetings were read to Abp. Peter from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and the Russian Holy Synod, and from the other hierarchs and clergy present, and gifts were exchanged.

The celebration then continued in the cathedral hall, where the clergy and faithful “shar[ed] stories of the many years of service of Archbishop Peter in the Mid-American Diocese.
