Nearly two dozen people in one city in Tanzania were able to celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord this year as newly illumined Orthodox Christians.
The Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration in the Diocese of Bukoba and Western Tanzania of the Patriarchate of Alexandria was the site of a mass Baptism on August 5, the eve of the Great Feast, in which 22 souls were united to Christ, reports the Friends of the Tanzania Bukoba Mission.

“The isolated and deserted monastery became the site of an Orthodox mission to the neighboring towns in the past three years,” the outlet writes.
After laboring at the monastery alone for 14 years, Fr. Chrysostomos was consecrated as Bishop of Bukoba and began to “fish” for living souls around the monastery.
Bp. Chrysostomos celebrated the monastery there on Saturday, after which 22 people were baptized into Christ.
Dozens were baptized at the same monastery on the feast of the Transfiguration in 2021. Most recently, another mass Baptism was celebrated in Arusha, Tanzania, last month.
