Orthodox liturgical texts in Korean and Russian published

On June 30, 2024, the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Seoul hosted a presentation of a liturgical collection published by the book publishing house of the Korean Diocese, reports the press service of the Korean Diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate. The book contains a collection of texts for the main Orthodox Church services. Besides the cycle of services, it includes prayers of preparation for and thanksgiving after Holy Communion, and the order of the Divine Liturgy.

The service book features parallel Korean and Church Slavonic texts. Work on the Korean translation been ongoing for several years now, as part of a joint project by Archbishop Theophan (Kim) of Korea, Hieromonk Paul (Chve Chi Yun) and Hierodeacon Nektary (Lim Chan). Publication was made possible through the assistance of the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage.

The Korean Diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate was officially established on February 26, 2019. This diocese was created as part of the broader Patriarchal Exarchate of South-East Asia, which also includes dioceses in Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines-Vietnam region. The Korean diocese currently has four churches: the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Seoul, the Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in Pusan, South Korea, the Church of the Holy and Life-Creating Trinity in Pyongyang, North Korea, and a house church dedicated to St. Anthony the Great on the island of Endon, South Korea.

The diocese serves to support the spiritual needs of Orthodox Christians in South Korea and to promote Orthodox Christianity in the country. Since its formation, the diocese has been active in organizing liturgical services, educational activities, and cultural events for the local Orthodox community.
