The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia launched a fundraising campaign this week to cover urgent repairs to the Synodal headquarters in New York City.
As His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, First Hierarch of ROCOR, notes in his appeal published on Wednesday, August 21, the Synodal residence is the home of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God and has seen the glorification of saints (including the New Martyrs and Confessors), the enthronements of First Hierarchs, and episcopal meetings with the participation of great ascetics such as St. John (Maximovitch) of San Francisco.
The building, which ROCOR has owned since 1957, “has fallen into extreme disrepair and is in need of major repairs.”
“In order to carry out this important work and preserve this House of the Mother of God, the spiritual and administrative center of the Russian Church Abroad, we must raise $15 million,” Met. Nicholas writes.
The First Hierarch thus appeals to all the faithful to “open your hearts and contribute what you are able to the repair and to the strengthening of our Holy Church!”
He concludes: “I believe that the Most Blessed Theotokos and the Holy Hierarch John, the great archpastor of the Russian Diaspora, will not forsake us!”
A Russian-English video about the Synodal headquarters is included with the appeal:
The capital improvement program encompasses, among other things:
