Vatopedi, one of Mount Athos’ most prominent monasteries, has been providing substantial support to the Holy Metropolis of Sidirokastro of the Orthodox Church of Greece through both regular donations and major development projects for many years now.

For over a decade, the monastery, under the leadership of Abbot Ephraim, has been the primary food supplier for the Metropolis’ St. Nektarios Church Nursing Home, which serves 58 elderly residents. The monastery provides nearly all of the food supplies consumed at the facility, making multiple deliveries throughout the year, reports Romfea.

The monastery's charitable work incldues youth programs as well. Approximately 500 children attending the Metropolis’ summer camps benefit from the monastery’s generous provisions of supplies and goods.

In terms of infrastructure development, Vatopedi Monastery has funded several significant renovation projects in the region. These include the complete restoration of the old school building in Vamvakofyto and the ongoing renovation of the former Officers’ Club in Sidirokastro. According to Metropolis officials, these extensive renovation projects would have been impossible without the monastery’s financial backing.

In fact, Vatopedi Monastery is known to help multiple dioceses, monasteries, churches, and institutions throughout the region.

The Metropolis of Sidirokastro expresses its profound gratitude for the monastery’s consistent support, noting that these contributions have significantly enhanced the Church’s ability to serve its local community effectively.
