The Rivne Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, together with charitable donors, has completed an initiative to provide a new home for a widowed priest’s family in the village of Myliatin.

The project came to fruition following the untimely death of Fr. Sergei, who recently reposed at just 32 years of age, leaving behind his wife Tetiana and their three children, the Rivne Diocese reports.

Throughout his life, Fr. Sergei had dedicated himself to serving God and his community, maintaining the church and parish house, but never managed to secure his own home. Shortly before his death, he had purchased an old, dilapidated wooden house that was uninhabitable.

The situation became more challenging when representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), who had taken control of the church, demanded that the widow and her children vacate the church house that Fr. Sergei had renovated with his own hands.

The Rivne Diocese and Tetiana’s family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all compassionate individuals who contributed to this act of mercy in the name of Jesus Christ. Through this collective effort, Fr. Sergei’s widow and children now have a new home and the opportunity to live with dignity.

OrthoChrisitan has reported on many such projects before, mainly within the Romanian Orthodox Church. This year, the Archdiocese of Iași helped build a house for a family with 9 children. In 2023, the Diocese of Maramureș and Sătmar rebuilt and repaired more than five dozen homes for families with many children or whose homes were affected by natural disasters.
