On February 8, the abbot of the Orthodox Church in America’s Monastery of the Holy Archangel Michael in Cañones New Mexico participated in a conference at Petru Vodă Monastery in Romania.

Abbot Silouan (Lightle) gave a talk entitled, “The Passion of the Romanian Saints in Communist Prisions” as part of the conference, “Fr. Justin Pârvu and Confessor Ioan Ianolide: Icons of Victory Over Communist Hell in 20th-Century Romania.”

In his talk, Fr. Silouan spoke about how the Orthodox Church knows God experientially, while drawing a parallel between the Romanian saints of the prisons and the Athonite hesychast saints.

Petru Vodă Monastery was founded by the revered Romanian Elder Justin (Pârvu) in 1991, and it was there that he reposed in 2013.
