The chapel was erected between 2021 and 2025 with the blessing of Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco and with the love and devotion of Abbess Markella and her sisterhood.

The Holy Monastery of the Theotokos the Life-Giving Spring is situated near the St. Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center in Dunlap, California. The monastery was founded in 1993 by Elder Ephraim of Mt. Athos with the assistance of His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony of San Francisco of blessed memory. Fr. Ephraim brought the first two nuns from the Holy Monastery of the Archangel Michael in Greece. The monastery’s name pays homage to the historic Theotokos the Life-Giving Spring Monastery and Shrine in Constantinople.
