Snegotin, Serbia, November 6, 2025
On November 2, the Orthodox Church joyously celebrated the feast of St. Gabriel the Confessor and Fool-for-Christ of Georgia.
As OrthoChristian previously reported, his feast was marked in his homeland with a festive procession, and the saint worked a miracle, healing an injured Ukrainian soldier. In England, a new mission for college students opened under St. Gabriel’s patronage.
And in Serbia, the famous Tuman monastery was blessed to receive an icon with relics of St. Gabriel, reports the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The icon was painted by the sisters of Samtavro Monastery in Georgia, where the relics of the saint rest. A large number of faithful gathered in prayer and joy to receive the holy gift, which brings a new blessing and Heavenly intercessor to the Serbian people.
The relics arrived in Serbia with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Andrei of Gori, a disciple of the saint himself, as a gift from the fraternal Georgian Orthodox Church. Following the solemn reception of the relics, the fathers of Tuman Monastery celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the prayerful presence of numerous clergy, monastics, and faithful.
Archimandrite Dimitrije, abbot of Tuman Monastery, said:
This is not only a historic but also a Heavenly day marked in red letters in the life of this shrine. We have received the relics of St. Gabriel the Elder from Georgia. We pray to him as our contemporary to intercede for us before God in this difficult and fateful time, to help us bear the burden of trials and inspire us all with the light of Christ that adorns him. Tuman Monastery is blessed with this holy gift, as is the entire Serbian land and people.
With this event, Tuman Monastery has received another great holy treasure. In addition to the relics of St. Zosimas, St. James, and St. Nektarios, the faithful will now have the opportunity to venerate the relics of St. Gabriel the Georgian, a great man of prayer, ascetic, and wonderworker of the modern era.
