The Orthodox Church in America held its annual collection for the Diocese of Alaska yesterday, being the Sunday nearest to the feast of St. Herman of Alaska.

The yearly collection was established following the 20th All-American Council in Baltimore, MD, where His Eminence Archbishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska addressed the difficulties facing clergy in the Alaskan Diocese.

Through contributions from the faithful throughout the OCA, the Clergy Endowment Stipend Fund met its original $1 million target and has continued to expand. This year’s collection will increase the existing endowment, the OCA reports.

The endowment bears the name Blessed Matushka Olga Endowment for Clergy Stipends and provides essential financial assistance to clergy serving in Alaska.

Donations can also be made online through Tithe.ly and PayPal, or via a number of other methods.

Contributions support clergy and their families with housing, supplement clergy salaries to address basic needs, fund management of diocesan properties that produce lease income, and maintain diocesan operations.

The diocese has also been assisting victims of the severe flooding that occurred this fall.
