The solemn glorification of the newly discovered relics of Hieromartyr Benjamin Lukanin took place in Perm on February 14-15, coinciding with the feast of the Meeting of the Lord and the Synaxis of All Saints of the Perm Metropolia.
St. Benjamin suffered and was killed during the Red Terror in 1918 near Shabunichi. He was glorified among the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church at the Jubilee Bishops’ Council in August 2000.
On August 5, 2025, his relics were discovered within the grounds of the Holy Trinity Church in the village of Polazna, Perm Province. On December 29, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill blessed the opening of the holy relics of for their veneration by the faithful.
On the evening of February 14, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodiy of Perm served the All-Night Vigil at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Perm, concelebrated by Their Graces Bishop Peter of Kudymkar and Bishop Gabriel of Solikamsk. During the service, the intact relics of St. Benjamin were processed into the cathedral, reports the Perm Metropolia.
Following the Six Psalms in Matins, the life of the hieromartyr was read aloud.
The next day, Met. Methodiy served the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, again concelebrated by Bishops Peter and Gabriel. The glorification of St. Benjamin’s relics took place during the Liturgy. Relatives of the hieromartyr were also present in the cathedral. A moleben before the relics of the saint was served following the Liturgy.
After the moleben, Met. Methodiy addressed those gathered with a sermon and greeted the saint’s relatives who attended the service.
