Debar, North Macedonia, August 14, 2026
The Diocese of Debar and Kičevo of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric has released a statement in support of organ donation, timed to World Organ Donation Day.
The diocese frames organ donation as an expression of love, solidarity, and care for neighbor, and calls on the faithful to support it.
The full statement reads:
On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, the Diocese of Debar and Kičevo issues a call for support of organ donation as an expression of love, solidarity, and care for life and neighbor. This is a noble act through which, even in the most difficult circumstances of life, we can give hope and a new chance at life to those facing serious illness. As Christians, we’re called to cultivate a culture of mercy and selfless giving, keeping in mind Christ’s commandment: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends (Jn. 15:13). The Diocese of Debar and Kičevo expresses its support for all those who, through their example, contribute to spreading awareness of the importance of organ donation and saving human lives.
The Serbian Orthodox Church and the Finnish Orthodox Church both released similar statements in support of organ donation in 2024.
