Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (Orthodox Church in America), is another of the many parishes across America that have been growing rapidly over the past several years.
This past Sunday, parish rector Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki enrolled six new catechumens, bringing the parish’s current total to 33.
Holy Apostles wrote yesterday: “Congratulations to our six new catechumens! God grant them many years! Please keep all 33 of our current catechumens in your prayers as they continue their path towards their entrance into the Church.”
Several people have already been baptized at the church this year.

Holy Apostles was founded as a mission parish in 2004, initially meeting in various rented spaces. OrthoChristian interviewed Fr. Timothy in 2015, when he spoke about the parish’s plans to build its own church complex in two major phases on land it had purchased in 2013.
The first services were held at the newly constructed church in October 2016. The building also includes the parish hall, kitchen, classrooms, and offices. However, that building was always intended to be the first phase of a larger project, and given the rapid expansion of the parish, it is already too small.

The parish is currently raising funds to move onto phase II of its growth plan—to build a larger church next door, that will be connected to the exiting building.
See the Holy Apostles website to learn more about and support the building effort.
