Patristic Nectar has released the second volume of St. Photios the Great’s Amphilochia, the 9th-century theological and philosophical work, in an English translation by Dr. Tikhon Alexander Pino.
The new release is the second installment in the publisher’s planned three-volume edition of the work.
This volume contains Questions 66-149, which take up difficult Biblical passages and apparent contradictions in Scripture, with careful reasoning, spiritual insight, and the wisdom of the Church Fathers.
The Amphilochia explores questions of Holy Scripture, theology, philosophy, language, and Christian life. The subjects in this volume range from the mystery of the Holy Trinity and the Divinity of the Holy Spirit to St. Peter’s repentance, God’s providence, loving our enemies, prayer, and fasting.
St. Photios also considers history, the natural world, and the philosophical categories of Aristotle, which shows the breadth of his learning.
Patristic Nectar says the volume offers both a deeper understanding of Scripture and an invitation to a life shaped by repentance, humility, and love.
Patristic Nectar also recently released On Repentance by St. Ephraim the Syrian.
