St. Olga's Convent: dependencies suffering from combat operations as before

Lugansk (Luhansk), September 3, 2014

The territories of the dependencies of the Convent of St. Olga are suffering from the combat operations, as before, reports the convent’s website.

In Novoannovka village, buildings adjacent to the church were damaged from shrapnel following the explosions of artillery shells. A monastery worker, Vyacheslav, suffered a slight hand injury.

Among the convent’s clergy and sisters nobody was injured. All of them are alive.

It was also reported that Sunday services had been celebrated in the city.

The Sunday festal services were celebrated at the St. Panteleimon’s Church of Lugansk, the service there was headed by Rector, Archpriest Andrei Dubina, and at the Church of Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Shchetovo village, headed by Priest Dmitry Kuznetsov.

After the first volleys the convent sisters and clergy stopped the reading of Akathists and services of need and managed to get to the bomb shelter. There they spent three bad hours in anxiety and prayer. The violent shaking of the walls and ceiling of the shelter showed just how powerful and close the explosions were.

The Church must conduct pastoral work for the care of souls, pray, and make peace between people; but under no circumstances must it serve one or another political view, position, or concept.” This allows the Church to remain outside of a conflict, and carry on its work of bringing peace between the conflicting sides.
