Metropolitan Sergy of Ternopil: “It is important not to be despondent and not to increase one's despondency”

Ternopil, the Ukraine, March 24, 2015

Metropolitan Sergy (Gensitsky) of Ternopil and Kremenets has answered the question of the Pravlife.org website: How a modern Christian should follow the words of the Savior, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:13-14).

“In order to be “the salt of the earth” we must act as Christians, according to the Gospels – only then we will become “the salt” of which the Lord spoke, the salt in which there is the Grace of God. Without Christ, without the Gospel and the holy fathers we will not be able to receive the Divine Grace.

Take pure babies, for example, little cherubs – their eyes shine! And if we persevere in cleansing our souls from the sin, then someone will notice something good in us as well. The most important thing is not to lose your heart and not to increase despondency.

In order to see light in another person, we ourselves need to be filled with light,” Metropolitan Sergy said.
