The VKontakte social networking website has blocked the Russian account of an online community that was earlier banned by Russia's mass media watchdog Roskomnadzor for promoting homosexual relations among teenagers.

"Access to the Children-404 group has been blocked for VKontakte users on the territory of the Russian Federation," VKontakte spokesman Georgy Lobushkin wrote on his account on the social networking website in the early hours of Friday.

VKontakte would have been blocked completely if it had refused to implement Roskomnadzor's instruction, Lobushkin said.

It was reported earlier that Roskomnadzor had imposed a ban on five VKontakte communities promoting homosexual relations among teenagers.

Roskomnadzor reported in November 2014, that an administrative offence protocol had been compiled against Yelena Klimova, administrator of the Children-404. LGBT-Teenagers project on the VKontakte social networking website, for promoting same-sex relations among teenagers.

The Children-404. LGBT-Teenagers project was established in 2013.

Earlier, a St. Petersburg lawmaker, Vitaly Milonov, filed a lawsuit against Klimova, but the case was dropped due to the absence of any legal violations in the woman's activities.
