The first Orthodox resort “Lesnoe (Forest)” has opened in Sochi for the development of pilgrimage and the popularization of the history of the region, reports RIA.
The resort has two camp areas and trails for hiking excursions. The resort is already under active development, including agreements of cooperation with Sochi tourist organizations for leading excursions. It is planned to take guests to the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George the Victorious on the medieval ruins of the Christian churches “Lesnoe Church 1,” “Lesnoe Church 2,” “Krion-Neron” and the Psycho Canyon.
“The first Orthodox resort, ‘Lesnoe’ has opened in Sochi. The development of the new vacation destination is aimed at increasing the number of pilgrims and the popularization of new routes related to the history of the region,” states the message of the city administrator.
Authorities note that the complex created in Sochi has continued the development of Orthodox tourism in the Krasnodar region. There are eleven active pilgrimage and spiritual-educational tours in the region, developed by the Pilgrimage Center of the Ekaterinburg and Kuban dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church. Tourist organizations offer excursions especially for religious pilgrims in Novorossiysk, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, and also in the Temryuk, Ust-Labinsk, Slavic and Caucasus reigions.
