The lawfulness of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s religious initiatives will be considered in the Kiev District Court.
The District Administrative Court of Kiev accepted on Monday the suit of the of the Non-Governmental Organization of the Rule of Law regarding the competency of the Ukrainian authorities to interfere in the activities of the Church and religious organizations, reports the site of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with reference to the site of the District Administrative Court.
“The plaintiff asks the court to establish the lack of competence (powers) of the head of state to interfere in the activities of the Church and religious organizations, in particular, by signing and sending an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the provision of a tomos of autocephaly to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, which was further supported by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine by the relevant resolution,” the court’s statement reads.
The court decided to open proceedings in the given administrative case and has appointed a preparatory meeting for October 13.
