The soul of every person has its radiance, its glow, depending on the life he leads, and, according to the saints, takes a form corresponding to its inner spiritual mood, its state.

The holy fathers instruct those who begin their spiritual life: Be ready for prolonged warfare and do not hope that we will always be savoring triumphs. Just the reverse, we will often have to be patient, enduring our burden.

The feeling of gratitude is commingled with living faith in God, with our wholly submitting ourselves to His will, and is a fruit of it. Hence, only the heart that strengthens its faith in God’s providence is capable of seeing the mercy embracing us.
