Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria hospitalized

His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria has been hospitalized again.

The chancellery of the Bulgarian Holy Synod informs that the Patriarch was “admitted for diagnosis and treatment at Sofiamed Medical Center … due to an exacerbation of his chronic diseases.”

“His Holiness the Patriarch prays to God for peace, health, and prosperity for the children of our Orthodox Church,” the statement reads.

The chancellery also calls on the faithful to pray for Pat. Neofit, and to “only accept information announced by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church-Bulgarian Patriarchate as reliable.”

His Holiness has been in poor health in recent years. He underwent a serious heart surgery in 2011, a year before his election to the primatial throne. He spent about a month in the hospital in April-May, 2018, after he fainted in his chambers, and about a week in the hospital last June. He was also hospitalized this past May with a fractured left femur.

“His Holiness the Patriarch addresses all his children who wish to congratulate him, to do so by praying for the health, peace and prosperity of our pious people,” the statement reads.
