The first Orthodox church in 100 years to be built in Warsaw—will Resemble Hagia Sophia

Construction of a new Orthodox church in the Polish capital of Warsaw will start in April 2015, reports PoloNews.

In the last hundred years, no new churches have been built in the capital of Poland.

The Orthodox church will be constructed on a piece of land of 1.5 hectares.

The architectural design of the church will resemble the Hagia Sophia Cathedral.

It took Polish builders just 23 hours and 36 minutes to construct a church with a tower 27 meters high, in the small town of Skarszewy, Pomorskie province. A Russian-Polish youth seminar took place from July 5 to 7, 2010, in Moscow, under the theme "Russia and Poland Today and Tomorrow: A View of the Younger Generation." It was attended by members of the public, young scientists, students from Russia and Poland, as well as representatives of the Orthodox and the Catholic Churches. The Department for External Church Relations was represented by Igumen Philip Riabykh, DECR vice-chairman.
