(VIDEO): On the Cessation of Commemoration

Source: YouTube

October 21, 2017

In this video, Fr. Theodore Zisis introduces audiences to the oft-misunderstood 15th Canon of the First-Second Council (861) and the canonical practice of ceasing the commemoration of bishops who have fallen into heresies condemned either by councils or the consensus of the Holy Fathers. He also examines cases of the cessation of commemoration in the Greek Church in the 20th century.

Why a great well known Serbian Elder - and now Saint - Elder Justin Popovich, described Ecumenism as a 'Pan-heresy', and the 'summation of all the other heresies'. What is Ecumenism? It is not just one heresy. All of the other heresies are contained within Ecumenism!

Letter of Protopresbyter Theodore Zisis to Metropolitan Anthimos of Thessaloniki (March 3, 2017)
Protopresbyter Theodore Zisis
"With sorrow, but also with much spiritual joy and happiness, I wish to inform you by means of the present letter that I am ceasing to commemorate your name during the holy services following the Apostolic and Patristic tradition as this pertains to communion with heretics on account of the fact that you, along with many of your fellow bishops, have abandoned the Holy Tradition and strayed from the path of the Holy Fathers."

Abbot of the Holy Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring in Paros, Greece Archimandrite Chrysostomos has formally submitted to the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church a detailed accusation of heresy against His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. In his letter the abbot has asked the Holy Synod to recognize as contrary to the Orthodox faith and condemn a series of twelve heterodox teachings from Constantinople outlined in the letter. The letter refers several times to ecumenical actions with and overtures towards the Roman Catholic confession.

If people were to take Boris's approach, then a great number of our saints would not have been vindicated, simply because a bishop decided to excommunicate a priest without any investigation from the faithful! St. John Chrysostom was at one point deposed and exiled from his seat in Constantinople. Would you say that because he was deposed,he should have been shunned? History clearly teaches us that St. John was UNJUSTLY deposed by a God hating empress! The orthodox bishop has never been given the false title "infallible", nor do we the faithful view our bishops as having some sort of "primacy". Bishops are men, and all men make mistakes, sometimes mistakes are rooted in the passion of pride.

We have reported on his suspension and excommunication. As far as we know, we are the only source in English to do so: http://orthochristian.com/101912.html.

The issue of non-commemoration is one that is quite relevant today, and also one that is quite misunderstood, so we have presented Fr. Theodore's explanation of the matter. We also have articles that note that people like Met. Hierotheos (Vlachos) and the Sacred Community of Mt. Athos are against non-commemoration at the present time.

I find it very disturbing that such a well-respected web page like orthochristian gives Fr. Theodore Zisis a stage where he can with his zeal for God (but a zeal not according of knowledge), affect and manipulate other orthodox christians.

Fr. Theodore Zsiis is SUSPENDED from priestly duties and EXCOMMUNICATED. And orthochristian should NOT promote such a person or/and his ideas....
