The famed Valaam Monastery opened its pilgrimage season with a procession in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the translation of whose relics to Bari, Italy was celebrated by the holy Orthodox Church yesterday. The brothherhood and the monastery's many pilgrims joined in the holy march around the island, carrying icon banners and a reliquary containing a piece of the relics of St. Nicholas.
This beautifully-shot video offers the viewer a chance to take part in the procession in some small way, and to enjoy the beauty of the Valaam forests, lakes, and churches.
