A priest and his family in the Chernigov Province of Ukraine were bound up, beaten, and teargassed during a robbery at their home last night.

Fr. Stefan Gavia, his matushka, and their 6-year-old grandson all suffered during the robbery in the village of Loknyste, reports the site of the Diocese of Chernigov.

At about 1:00 AM, two unknown men broke a window and entered into the house. They locked the grandson up in the next room, and tied up the priest and his wife. The criminals then beat and teargassed the servants of God and demanded $10,000, which the men believed was being kept somewhere in the house.

In the end, they found and stole only $415 (11,000 hyrvnia) and the matushka’s earrings. The men then fled in Fr. Stefan’s car, which they later ditched in Chernigov.

A criminal case has been opened and the investigation is underway.
