More monks from Mount Athos test positive for coronavirus

Three more monks of Xenophontos Monastery on Mount Athos, have tested positive for coronavirus.

“They are being treated at the Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki and will be transferred immediately to AHEPA,” Konstantinos Doukouslis, the director of Mount Athos (Karyes) health centre said.

The ages of the three monks range from 40 to 55 years old, and it is recalled that they had recently travelled to the UK with another monk who is already being treated at AHEPA.

The 55-year-old monk of Xenophontos Monastery, one of the 20 ruling monasteries on the Holy Mountain, is currently hospitalized in the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki. While the Holy Mountain has closed its port to pilgrims until the end of the month, the monastics continue to uphold the faithful through their prayers.
