Altogether, the metropolises and the Archdiocese of Athens of the Church of Greece spent more than $136 million on charity in 2019, the Holy Synod announced after its session on June 26.
According to the report from the Synodal Committee for Social Protection and Support, $136,631,240 (121,659,244 euros) were spent through the Church’s many social welfare projects, reports the press service of the Church of Greece.
It is also noted that the Church currently operates 4,464 charitable structures, with 20,838 volunteers.
The Church devoted slightly more funds to humanitarian assistance programs in 2019 than in 2018, when it allocated $136,061,062 (121,530,510 euros).
