Timișoara, Romania, September 1, 2020
On Sunday, August 31, a new church serving Ukrainians living in Romania was consecrated in the western Romanian city of Timișoara by His Eminence Metropolitan Ioan of Banat and Timișoara, serving on behalf of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania.
The church was consecrated in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, with a secondary dedication to St. Seraphim of Sarov, reports the Metropolis of Banat.
It is the 10th Ukrainian church in Timiș County.
The Metropolitan was greeted that morning by a number of priests and deacons and invited Romanian and Ukrainian guests, including the Interim Ambassador of Ukraine to Romania, the Deputy of the Ukrainian minority in the Romanian Parliament, and other local officials, and a number of Orthodox faithful.

Parish rector Fr. Christian Popovici was then awarded for his wise governance of the community, and the Ukrainian faithful presented Met. Ioan with an episcopal Panagia and an icon of the Mother of God.
The new parish is administratively subject to the Ukrainian Orthodox Vicariate of Sighetu Marmației, canonically under the obedience of the Romanian Patriarchate.
