Serbian Church to elect new Patriarch in February

According to a press release issued by the Serbian Orthodox Church on Saturday, the Holy Assembly of Bishops will gather on February 18 to elect a new Patriarch.

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej reposed in the Lord on November 20 at the age of 90, after being hospitalized since November 4. He served as a hierarch of the Serbian Church for nearly 46 years, and nearly 11 as primate.

His funeral was served on Sunday, November 22, and his 40-day memorial was served today in the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade.

His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostom of Dabar-Bosnia, the senior-most hierarch of the Serbian Church, is serving as locum tenens of the Patriarchal throne.
