The primate of the Coptic church, Pope Tawadros II, sent more than a ton of oranges grown in Egyptian monasteries to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill for the feast of the Nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ. In turn, Pat. Kirill decided to transfer them hospitals and social institutions.
The Egyptian oranges were received by sick children, lonely elderly people, seriously ill people, and homeless people, reports the site of the Russian Orthodox Church.
His Eminence Archbishop Panteleimon, the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Services, noted that the fruit was sent to hospitals and centers for feeding the homeless. “His Holiness personally visited most of these projects and clinics to support and comfort the suffering and needy,” Abp. Panteleimon noted.
For the past several years, Pat. Kirill has asked that, in lieu of flowers on Nativity, Pascha, the anniversary of his enthronement, and other important dates, clergy and parishes donate funds for charity to help the Church’s St. Alexei Hospital in Moscow.
The funds have been used to purchase various equipment for the uninterrupted supply of medical oxygen during assisted ventilation, a shockwave apparatus for physiotherapy clinics and two anesthetic apparatuses, a new ambulance, a dialysis machine, and much more.
