Although Ben Gurion Airport is still closed due to COVID restrictions, Israel will allow several countries to send delegations to receive the Holy Fire that descends in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre every year on Holy Saturday.
“These countries are Cyprus, Bulgaria, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Greece, Georgia, Poland, and Kazakhstan,” Sharon Regev, director of the Department of World Religions of the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced at a press conference, reports RIA-Novosti.
According to her, the Foreign Ministry has been preparing for this “for many weeks.” Special emissaries will also deliver the Holy Fire to the Christian communities of Israel, Palestine, and Jordan, she noted.
OrthoChristian earlier reported that about 2,500 faithful will be able to attend the service of the Holy Fire this year, with proof of vaccination. The service will be broadcast live online by the Ukrainian TV channel Inter.
