Hilandar Monastery has pledged to financially support two women whose families were brutally murdered in Kosovo and Metohija in 1999.

The abbot of the Serbian Athonite monastery Archimandrite Metodije delivered financial aid to Petra Kostić and Slobodanka Kostić from Suva Reka in central-southern Kosovo during a reception at the Hilandar Endowment in Belgrade earlier this week.

The two women, who have endured so much suffering, will receive aid from the monastery once a year for the rest of their lives, Hilandar reports.

During the reception, Abbot Metodije heard the shocking life confessions of the two mothers about the suffering that befell their families. According to the monastery report, they are the only living witnesses to the atrocities committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army.

Petra Kostić lost her two sons and 14 relatives altogether, while Slobodanka Kostić’s two sons and a nephew were murdered in the same day. Both women now live as displaced persons in Serbia, without the possibility of returning home.

Fr. Metodije gave the women icons of the Mother of God “of the Three Hands” and olive oil from Hilandar, and assured them that the entire brotherhood would be praying for them and for the repose of their relatives.
