The highly-anticipated film Man of God, about the great 20th-century wonderworker St. Nektarios of Aegina, was screened at the 11th Athens Open Air Film Festival on Tuesday, and it hits theaters in Greece and Cyprus today.

At the festival, Yelena Popovic, the writer and director of the film, spoke about why she decided to make a film about St. Nektarios and what she hoped to convey.

Among other things, the director emphasized that she wanted to share the inspiration that she personally took from St. Nektarios and that she hopes people can learn from the great saint how to live and die.

An excerpt from her interview was shared by the Orthodoxia News Agency:

The film made its international debut at the 43rd Moscow International Film Festival in April, where it won the coveted Audience Award. Man of God also took home the Audience Award at the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival in May.
