A great spiritual event occurred in the Philippines this week, as a group of 12 men and women were baptized into Christ in His holy Orthodox Church in the waters of the West Philippine Sea.

The dozen newly-illumined are all former members of a Monophysite church, reports the Diocese of the Philippines and Vietnam of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The head of the diocesan missionary department, Fr. Moses Kahilig, and other catechists visited the city of Dipolog in the Zamboanga del Norte Province to teach the basics of the Orthodox faith to those who had previously asked to be accepted into the Church.

The Baptisms were celebrated following the catechetical seminar.

To the individual above who stated that it is insane to baptize heretics, one needs to understand that this is the practice of the Church throughout the ages. Unfortunately due to modern revisionist and communist ideology some people think otherwise.

I'm a Filipino. We have a lot of fake churches in the Philippines led by tricksters and charlatans, especially in provincial and urban poor areas. Many of them like to dress up in robes copied from Eastern Christian Churches, claim made-up titles, and allege to be part of this or that Eastern Orthodox / Oriental Orthodox Church. They also have patched-up theologies with bits and pieces taken from this or that Church. It is possible that these 12 come from one of these made-up / ersatz "churches".

Highly unlikely they were "monophysites". That aside, we are now re-baptizing copts? That is insanity.

It would be interesting if the Moscow Patriarchate start a mission within monophysites using the syriac liturgy, as it did for the nestorian assyrians using their own liturgy at the end of XIX century.
