Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople successfully underwent a stent placement at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City yesterday.

He is expected to be released today, reports the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

The procedure comes at the end of the Patriarch’s visit to America. He was originally scheduled to return to Turkey yesterday, but he decided to have the procedure done in America rather than Turkey.

The Patriarch was earlier hospitalized with exhaustion on October 24, the day after he arrived in America.
